Power mesh is the hidden layer that makes structured garments work. Mirage is ultra-fine, nearly invisible against the skin, and provides just enough support to hold a bodice shape without adding visible bulk. When you hold it up to the light, you see the tight hexagonal weave that gives this fabric its signature strength-to-weight ratio.
Thirty-nine colors at 59 inches wide. The mesh stretches evenly in all directions, which means it moves with the body instead of restricting it — a critical difference when designing fitted garments that need to stay comfortable through hours of wear.
THREE WAYS POWER MESH PULLS ITS WEIGHT
1) Bodice lining and support layers. This is where power mesh earns its name. It provides structure for strapless gowns, fitted corsets, and form-fitting dresses without the stiffness of traditional interfacing. Works especially well for:
a) Strapless bridal bodices that need hidden support without visible boning lines
b) Fitted competition dance costumes where the mesh holds the shape through hours of movement
c) Corset-style evening gowns where the mesh compresses gently without restricting breathing
Layer it under silky satin for a smooth exterior with hidden support underneath.
2) Sleeves and illusion panels. The fine mesh is nearly invisible on skin, making it the go-to base for illusion necklines, sheer sleeve panels, and decorative cutout sections. You can apply beads, sequins, or embroidery directly onto the mesh and it carries the weight without sagging.
3) Shapewear and undergarments. The even stretch and breathable construction make Mirage suitable for lightweight shapewear layers under form-fitting gowns. It smooths without compressing and stays comfortable in warm venues.
SEWING WITH POWER MESH
Cut on a single layer. The mesh stretches evenly, so grain direction is less critical than with woven fabrics, but consistent cutting direction still matters for projects where multiple panels need to match.
Use a ballpoint or stretch needle (75/11) to avoid snagging the hexagonal weave. A narrow zigzag stitch or lightning bolt stitch handles the stretch better than a straight stitch. Polyester thread stretches with the fabric — cotton thread will pop under tension.
