Tulle "Spirit" is the lightweight mesh that gives structure its invisible support. Unlike heavier tulle varieties Spirit uses a finer weave that reads as nearly transparent against skin but still carries enough strength to hold bodice shape support layered embellishment and create volume without weight. This is the tulle designers use when they want the fabric to do its job without being seen.
Spirit works where other tulle would add too much visual weight. Layer it under chiffon for opacity without losing the float layer it under beaded fabric to carry the embellishment weight or use it as the structural base for veils that need to hold their shape through a full ceremony. Combine Spirit with our chiffon for airy overlay panels where the fine mesh provides just enough structure to keep the chiffon from collapsing.
THREE WAYS SPIRIT TULLE PULLS ITS WEIGHT
1) Hidden support layers. The most important thing tulle does is the thing nobody notices. Spirit keeps strapless bodices from slipping holds waistlines in place and gives volume to skirt layers without adding visible bulk:
a) Spirit lining inside bodice panels of bridal satin gowns where the mesh prevents the satin from stretching out of shape over hours of wear
b) Spirit underskirts under heavy beaded overlays where the mesh carries the weight and prevents the gown from sagging at the hips
c) Spirit layers inside veil constructions where the tulle gives the veil enough body to hold its shape without starch or wire
2) Illusion panels. The fine hexagonal weave of Spirit creates an almost invisible base that reads as bare skin from a distance. This is why illusion necklines sheer sleeves and decorative cutout panels on evening gowns use Spirit tulle. The fabric is strong enough to carry embroidery beads and sequins while remaining weightless against the skin.
3) Event draping and volume. Spirit tulle is the go-to for ceiling draping where large volumes of fabric need to be lightweight enough to hang from above. Multiple layers of Spirit create the cloud effect in venue ceilings and ceremony arches where guests see volume but feel lightness. The fabric transports easily packs into compact rolls and sets up in minutes.
WORKING WITH SPIRIT TULLE
Spirit tulle is easy to cut and sew but requires a light touch. Cut on a single layer for precision. Use a universal 70/10 needle and polyester thread. The fine mesh does not fray so raw edges can be left unfinished on seams that sit inside the garment. Pin generously to prevent shifting during cutting and sewing.
